On the drive to Deer Lake from Qiurpon, we stopped in Port aux choix after others recommended we do so. It’s a sleepy little town with just a few things including this interpretation centre. I don’t know what’s taught in grade schools anymore about the history of the different people who lived in North America but this interpretation centre provides an in-depth understanding of the various groups of indigenous people who lived here and the European settlers who came to Newfoundland too. This exhibit is clear and detailed with models, artifacts and explanations. There is a short video as well that explains the significance of the archeological findings of the area that make this centre important.

It wasn’t busy when we went but that made it better and more pleasurable to review the exhibit and watch the video. If you stop here, make a point to visit and get a better idea of North America’s maritime history with humans.

It's too bad Parks Canada hasn't updated language. Eskimo and Indians are not acceptable to be used anymore. Here's hoping for change.

Loved the presentation here and tried seal meat for the first time. It was okay. Would be better on a salty cracker with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon...

Wonderful center. Canada seems to have this skill of putting a huge amount of information into tiny buildings. If you are interested in native history THIS is one of the sites you want to visit.

Very good movie and excellent talk by park employee on the 4 historic cultures. Quite a few artifacts well displayed. Excellent small gift shop. Area is barren but the museum really is important to understand prehistory.

Lots of history, a lighthouse, and some awesome scenery. Great hiking opportunities.
